The Nubes collection is a series of nine wall sculptures, born from an abstract exploration of cloud-like dots. Murmurations of moving particles fill the space, while stone surfaces imprison them, confining them to an enclosed space and freezing their positions in a single frame. A snapshot where space and time stand still, revealing a wide spectrum of compositions, forms, and meanings. Scattered flocks collect and disperse like birds in flight, seemingly moving with complete freedom and spontaneity. At times, they float silently and lightly like snowflakes suspended in the air, their trajectory unpredictable. Other times, they converge in unison towards a single point, as if drawn to a centre of gravity or gravitating towards a common focal point.

There are also particles that form geometric shapes, symbols of balance, ideal beauty, and absolute perfection. Here, the individual particles serve a broader design, and the shapes they form become the true focus of the representation. As central to the composition as they are essential to the order governing them, these figures are as fleeting and illusory as the ideas they symbolise. In fact, the overall design is visible only to those who observe it from afar, while, in essence, they remain nothing more than clusters of dots – distant or close, only partially free, yet always individual, minute entities subject to a higher order.

Lastly, two compositions feature forms aligned along horizontal and vertical lines, metaphors of strict order and control. These elements are forced to follow an unyielding rule that dictates their coordinates, as if bound by a rigid, top-down command. The composition reveals an overall dynamic, a gradient that sets them in motion cohesively, yet each element lacks individual freedom.

The dynamics of these point clouds evoke aspects of our social structures, where individuals may feel free to act and think in total anarchy, adhere to shared rules, or be frozen within rigid dictates imposed from above, whether consciously or unconsciously. Nūbēs is designed by Draw Studio and crafted from polished Carbon Grey quartzite surfaces with embedded natural brass spheres, or polished Pannonia Grün slate with embedded carbon steel spheres.
