HOPE INSTALLATION – PHOTOS BY BEATRICE ARENELLA & DRAW STUDIO, 2025
Hope is an immersive installation that explores the concept of happiness through a journey across three distinct spaces, each reflecting a different emotional state. Just as joy cannot exist without sadness, nor pleasure without pain, courage without fear, certainty without doubt, or the true value of companionship without solitude, this installation reminds us that there is no light without shadow.
The experience begins in the ‘Room of Shadow’, a space engulfed in darkness and disorder. This is a hostile, disorienting environment filled with rough textures, jagged shapes, scattered fragments resembling ruins, towers, crevices and figures bent inwards upon themselves.
Yet, after a few steps, a glimmer of light breaks through the rock: an opening, a way forward, a sign of hope. In the ‘Room of Hope’, visitors enter a bright and harmonious space, defined by soft, welcoming forms, light materials, and smooth surfaces. This is a place for reflection, connection and dialogue. A space of listening, sharing and understanding. At its centre, a large circular mirror reflects each visitor, allowing them to see themselves as part of a larger whole. All connected, all part of the same story. Two large tympana symbolise the act of listening, while six exquisite crystal spheres represent universal values, the foundations of a shared and ideal community.
At the end of this space, the final stage unfolds: the ‘Corridor of Bloom’. This passage bursts with colour and life, embracing visitors from every side. A seemingly endless stone walkway, crowned by a canopy of flowers, guides the visitor towards the exit.
