IC is a collection of precious desk accessories. They are micro-architectures, made of steel beams, standard profiles stolen from the world of architecture and finely polished brass surfaces. They are pure, sculptural objects, made of ‘skin and bones’, as Mies Van der Rohe used to say when he talked about his functionalist poetics, in which beams and construction elements left exposed defined the language and therefore the aesthetics of his buildings.

However, it was Scarpa’s language that inspired the first pieces in the collection, created after one of our many visits to Castel Vecchio in Verona: the raw surface of steel juxtaposed with the whiteness of brass. The strength of the substance, which lives thanks to the patina of time and the marks produced by interaction with the user. The use of light, reflected by brass and absorbed by steel, in search of plasticity and depth. And then the extreme attention to detail, which on a micro scale requires absolute constructional precision and meticulous attention at every stage of production. Finally, the raw beams are used as a functional tool, but chosen for the beauty of their surfaces and the brutality of their shapes.

Each piece is as precious as a jewel, constructed, finished and assembled by hand one by one. In the series, in addition to trays, pen holders and boxes, there are letter racks, letter openers, desk cases, rulers and bookmarks. Items that are now far removed from our daily lives, almost as if they were ghosts of the past, but which in the digital age reawaken the desire for physicality, materiality and manual skills.
