Abacus

TERZANI

ANTIQUE WOODEN ABACUS AND ABACUS HAWKER, ST. PETERSBURG, LATE 1860

Abacus is a collection of pendant lamps with pure and refined shapes. As the name itself evokes, the concept is inspired by the oldest calculation tool ever found, the abacus, used since the 21st century BC in Mesopotamia and ancient China, whose simple and elegant sculptural form as well as mathematical accuracy and rigour echo back. The single modules are repeated linearly and then each element is organized in groups, to create compositions with infinite possibilities, while from the centre of each sphere the radiated light spreads softly through the curved shapes of opaline glass.

The apparent simplicity, hides in reality a complex development, in search of production excellence: the finely worked blown glass, the turned details in natural brass, a sophisticated system of LED sources developed and produced ad hoc to offer a homogeneous and calibrated light diffusion. Abacus is ideal for lighting home environments as well as for embellishing contract spaces, thanks to its formal cleanliness and the versatility offered by its countless compositional possibilities.
